# Digimon Story: Time Stranger: platforms, editions and beginner guide

**Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a single-player, turn-based monster-raising RPG.** Consider it if you want to build a creature team and choose battle commands, rather than move and attack in real time.

## Which platforms is Time Stranger on?

It is available on PC via Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2. The Nintendo versions arrived on July 10, 2026, so older pages listing only PC, PlayStation and Xbox are incomplete. ## Do you need to play Cyber Sleuth first?

The publisher describes Time Stranger as an entry point to the series. You can choose it as your first Digimon Story game without treating Cyber Sleuth as homework. That does not mean every raising system will be immediately familiar: use the opening to decide whether collecting and developing a team is what you want from an RPG.

**Our take:** start with the demo when available for your platform, rather than buying a longer bundle because of the series name alone.

## Is it turn-based, and is there a demo?

Yes, battles use turns. Raising Digimon and configuring a team are central systems, unlike Z-A's emphasis on moving during Pokémon battles. The [official game page](https://www.bandainamcoent.com/games/digimon-story-time-stranger) lists demos for Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and says opening-chapter progress can transfer to the full game. Check your platform's listing before relying on a demo or save transfer; this is not a cross-platform save promise.

## Does Time Stranger have English or Japanese voices?

**The Steam version lists both English and Japanese full audio.** Its language table separates voices from interface and subtitle support:

## Standard, Deluxe or Ultimate?

A larger edition is only useful if you want its listed extras. Do not assume a Season Pass includes every future expansion: check the names of the included packs against the content you actually want.

## Why will my Digimon not evolve?

Check the target's displayed conditions rather than its level alone. ## Switch or Switch 2: what matters beyond the box label?

Bandai Namco lists Quality and Performance modes for the native Switch 2 software, targeting up to 30 and 60 fps respectively. Those are publisher specifications, not our benchmark results. Importantly, the publisher says Switch-version save data cannot be shared with the native Switch 2 software.
