**Reach level 50 in Mable’s Research to earn the Shiny Charm in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.** This is research progress, not your trainer’s Z-A Royale rank or the level of one Pokémon. You can encounter shiny Pokémon before obtaining the charm; it improves your chances rather than enabling shinies for the first time.

## How do you work towards research level 50?

[Nintendo Life’s Shiny Charm guide](https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/pokemon-legends-z-a-how-to-get-the-shiny-charm) identifies research tasks including catching Pokémon by type, filling Pokédex entries, evolving Pokémon, using evolution items and completing Wild Zone collections. Many tasks have multiple tiers.

Open your research task list and compare **the next reachable reward** for each task. Our recommendation is to combine goals: work on an unfinished type-catching task while filling a missing entry, or complete an evolution you already have the items for. An unfamiliar checklist is less useful than checking what your own save still needs.

## Do you have to wait for the charm to start shiny hunting?

No. [PokéCommunity’s shiny-hunting explanation](https://daily.pokecommunity.com/2025/10/18/shiny-hunting-in-pokemon-legends-z-a/) distinguishes ordinary encounters from the charm’s extra shiny checks. It describes refreshing non-shiny encounters by moving between areas or resting, while shiny encounters can persist under the game’s spawn system.

Treat a shiny you find as a catch to handle promptly, not permission to assume it can never be lost. This guide does not promise that every species or special encounter can appear shiny, nor that repeating a reset method guarantees one within a fixed time.

## Does Mega Dimension change which guide you need?

First identify where you are hunting: ordinary Lumiose City or a Mega Dimension Hyperspace area. Do not apply a DLC-specific method to a player who only owns the base game. ## What should you check before following a farming video?

Record the game version, area, target species and whether the method requires DLC. Then distinguish a reproducible encounter refresh from a creator’s lucky result. We do not label a route “fastest” without a comparable test, and a short clip is not evidence that every attempt produces a shiny.
